Superior Tofu

Tofu rocks! I love tofu! And the tofu from Superior Tofu, a Vancouver tofu producer (they also have a restaurant in Chinatown) is very good. And their website has some recipes that look good!

I found out about this site from Demystifying Tofu which I found by doing a web search for Vancouver food sites. Much to my chagrin, I have not been able to find websites like ours.

Zagat Vancouver Restaurant Guide

Zagat has an online Vancouver Restaurant Guide. The cool thing about this is that you can vote for your favourite restaurants. The prices are a bit off though e.g. $55 for dinner Lumiere is a bit low (more like $80 Canadian for dinner with a drink)! An interesting list of restaurants; they generally are in agreement with the opinions of Barb and myself.

Lumiere to renovate soon

According to the website for City Food, a Vancouver and Seattle free publication about food, Lumiere will be closing for a few days soon to expand!

Hopefully by the time of our next planned visit in February, it will have re-opened. We'll let you know!

Von's Grand City Cafe

This afternoon we went to see Swing in Seattle at the Paramount. As lovers of Lindy Hop and other styles of swing, we can heartily recommend this award winning Broadway musical. Unfortunately, today is the last day in Seattle, and I don't know if it will ever show up in Vancouver. Anyhow if you get a chance to see it, go!

Afterwards we had baby back ribs and chicken at Von's Grand City Cafe which is a Seattle institution.

Eat Korean at Da Rae!

If you need a Korean food fix and you are in Burnaby or close to the border, then Da Rae Korean Restaurant is the place to be!

Ouest on South Granville

The buzz about Ouest on South Granville , which opened late in 2000, makes me want to eat there! From Vancouver magazine: "Expect the unusual from David Hawksworth.

Westender's top 11 Vancouver Restaurants

I can't disagree with Robin Mines of the Westender who chose Lumiere as their top pick on their Best 11 Restaurants of 2000. Barb and I had an excellent meal there and friends who have dined there at various times throughout the year have also given it rave reviews.

Anniversary dinner at Spicy Court

Tonight, for their parents' 37th wedding anniversary, Barb and her brother Andy treated their parents (and me, sometimes you get lucky!) to a delicious dinner at the Spicy Court Restaurant on Cambie.

Check out our Spicy Court review!

Sugarplum Desserts Carrot cake is delicious!

Tonight we sampled the carrot cake from Sugarplum Desserts in Langley. It was heavenly; not too sweet, with a mouthwatering texture and just the right amount of nuts. The cake was even decorated with miniature real carrots.

Our friend Cathy, who has a discerning eye for both good food and bargains, told us about Sugarplum Desserts. According to Cathy, they cook cakes for Vancouver area restaurants and, if they are flawed in anyway, they sell these cakes (known as "seconds") for bargain prices.

Bargain is right!

The Lazy Gourmet

For brunch, we can heartily recommend the Lazy Gourmet's burgers.
