I love Belgian food and drink, especially the beer. Thus, I am predisposed to liking a Belgian restaurant like Chambar (562 Beatty Street, 604 979-7119).
And I love Moroccan food! So any place that combines the two countries' cuisine is a place I'll probably like.
Last Tuesday evening the Vancouver Slow Food convivium held its annual spring potluck. Its theme being dishes that celebrate spring. I am usually fond of potlucks but was extra excited about attending this one...foodies cooking up the best of the season.
We dined on a array of delicious dishes ranging from an "edamole" and homemade flax seed crackers to a southern style gumbo of seasonal mixed greens and ham to a refreshing rhubarb cream roulade.
Hurray! The East Van Farmers Market is open again! It's hard to believe that when the market first opened 10 years ago, there were only 7 farmers and they sold out in 2 hours. How the market has grown...3 weekly markets and dozens of farmers, food artisans and crafts people. Not to mention the growth and sustainability of a community. Congratulations and may the markets continue to grow and flourish!
It's the 10th year of the East Van Farmers Market and it's better than ever! Check out the photo of Devorah Kahn (former leader of the Vancouver Farmers Markets association, eatlocal) speaking before the ribbon was cut! More later. See you next Saturday!
Still serving up delicious food and still inexpensive in 2005 even though the Teatriz Cafe has new owners. For example my big plate of spicy rib fried rice with lots of garlic (bring mints!) was about $6 and included a Hong Kong style iced tea with milk. Mmmm.
Boris and I went Thursday night (they are open to 7p.m. on Thursdays) to the new Kiwi Pie Company location on Robson. The pies are as delicious as ever. My only regret is that they are temporarily out of red T-shirts!
Here are some of Barb's favourites from yesterday's Slow Food Vancouver Potluck (remember that non-members are always encouraged to come but for potlucks are on a waiting list after members and that most events except for restaurant events are inexpensive or freeremember all events are free and non-members are welcome!). More on this later from Barb!
