Two days ago, a 3rd Guu opened. This is a major boost for eating in Gastown! It's located  at #105-375 Water Street and the telephone number is 604 685-8682.  From a quick Google search, it appears Otokomae means "handsome" in Japanese. 

A Filipino cooking journal from A Sassy Lawyer in Philippine Suburbia is a blog about Filipino food written by a Filipino who actually lives in the Philippines.  Yes! Lots of great looking  recipes here including two of my personal favourites nilaga (slow cooked stew) and sinigang (tamarind stew).

Barb and I enjoyed a fabulous prix fixé ($32 each for an appetizer, main and dessert) meal at Cru (1459 West Broadway, 604 677-4111) tonight.  Just one of those meals that you come away feeling happy, satisfied, and full but not too full.

Everything was fine: the room is not quiety but not uncomfortably loud, hip but not overly so, warm, cozy, small but not claustrophobic.

Barb and I had a great time at Taste of the City this afternoon.  A perfect fall day for trying out some delicious food from 25 restaurants.  It's not to late!  They are open until 10p.m. so you have plenty of time left to check it out.  And there's food for the whole family and all tastes and budgets.

Barb's favourite was the salmon candy with wild rice and pickled Okanagan tree fruit salad ($3) from C.  Excellent clean flavours and texture contrasts.

After being lucky enough to have Indian food 3 times this past week, I was happy to find this article on making tandoor-style flatbread. Written by Jeffrey Alford and Naomi Duguid, two of our favourite food authors, the article gives an in depth overview on technique and methods to successfully make homemade naan.

I think naan will be one of this week's cooking projects.

The best wedding food we have ever tasted was served by the folks at Rubina Tandoori (1962 Kingsway, 604 874-3621) at Toni and Kerrie's wedding in 2001.  And we have equally loved the food at Rubina Grill at Granville Island.
