Here are some photos from Friday's lunch at lunchbox soup.
First, a picture of the excellent curried celery and butternut squash soup:

First Visit: lunchbox soup

Two month old lunchbox soup (991 Hornby,  604 844 7687) has wonderful soup!  Yesterday, I tried and really enjoyed their 1/2 soup and sandwich ($7.50).

For your $7.50 you get a big cup of soup of your choice in a white tall cup and a sandwich in a white bag.  White is definitely one of the main design motifs of this restaurant. All of the staff are clad tip to toe in white and the ambiance is soothing white.

First Visit: Frannie's Cafe

This is not your typical first visit report. I have been saving this one for my forthcoming article on where to lunch in Gastown, but I couldn't wait!

Frannie's Cafe (325 Cambie, 604 685-2928) is run by some nice Korean folks. Although they serve Korean food, they downplay it (gotta serve your market!) in favour of Western style sandwiches and lunch specials.

Every time I go there, I watch others eat their sandwiches with gusto and chat with the proprietors.

Nice compliment from Phil Wolff of a klog apart

*blush* ! Thanks Phil! By the way, if you want to figure what blogging is, where it's going and how to profit from it, read Phil's blog, a klog apart, it's a MUST.

DrinkBoy - Adventures in Cocktails

Althought it's not frequently updated, Drinkboy (the blog, the message boards and the website are all worth following). Since I subscribe to the blog, it doesn't matter how often it updates and I don't have to manually surf to it.

Anyways, the cocktail recipes are the best part of the site.

Mini-Review: Nat's New York Pizzeria

If you want good pizza in the West End or in Kits, you can't go wrong at Nat's. Check out our Mini-Review: Nat's New York Pizzeria

Mini-Review: Nat's New York Pizzeria

We love Nat's New York Style pizzeria but have only managed to eat their pizza twice because there are so so many other great places to eat here in Vancouver (it's tough to be food writers in this city :-) !)

The first time was during a Canuck's playoff game (we ordered a takeout pie) and the second time was last week.

The star of Nat's show is definitely the pizza. It is the real thing. Thin crust New York Style.

Reading sites about eating and travelling in Italy like DeliciousItaly make me want to go back to Italy now! Our honeymoon in Tuscany seems so long ago now!

First Visit: Provence on 10th

Barb's parents treated us to brunch today at Provence's original location on 10th Avenue (4473 West 10th Avenue, 604 222-1980).

The room is decorated in a provencal style but it is not over the top. Approachable and summery but not brash!

Of course the most important part is the food and Provence delivers. We shared three antipasti to start for $13.
