I was reminded when reading Andrea's post that I linked to yesterday (which Manila seems to have somehow corrupted) of Al's Kitchen on The Cheap. Check it out! Cheap, cheerful and above all practical advice on cooking equipment.
eGullet is the best of all possible worlds and the worst of all possible worlds. It's the best because there's tons of great food related writing, reviews and writing. It's the worst because there is so much material that it's impossible to follow. To put my RSS advocate hat on, if there were RSS feeds, I think it would be easier to follow.
As usual, this story is influenced by my bias for small, ethnic restaurants as well as the fact that with a new baby and no budget (i.e. I pay for my own meals!), I don't get out to eat as much as I'd like and I can't spend what I'd like. This is not whingeing, just a statement of fact! I am very lucky that Vancouver has lots of restaurants (especially at lunch) that are affordable and make everybody feel like a king!

Thanks for the nomination Bill. And thanks for running the Food Blog Awards, Accidental Hedonist. Chocolate and Zucchini is a fine blog. My only quibble is that there are 1000s NOT 100s of food blogs (if you just take the French, English, and German ones that I occasionally read via their RSS feeds).
More French Laundry Reservation tips. This time from Aimee (thanks!). In brief: book lunch, book the private room and 'war dial'. More details in our updated French Laundry Reservation Saga Part 3.
WaiterBlog is a hilarious blog of rants from people in BC's food industry. Even if it isn't true (I bet most of it is!), it comes across as real and is quite a fun read. Check it out!
Wow! The generosity of Vancourites continues to surprise me. The challenge for us (I guess) is to make this an ongoing effort for this and other worthy but less publicized causes.
