Back in September, I spotted a new Filipino restaurant, Cucina Manila (5179 Joyce, phone number unknown). Today I walked by and noticed that that the sign had changed from "Soon to open" to "Grand Opening". Didn't have time to check it out (other than noticing that the hours seem to be 10a.m.-9p.m.) but plan to do so in the near future!
The Tyee is a brand new BC alternative publication that linked to VanEats on their blog page. Thanks and looking forward to many years of reading The Tyee!
For a Halloween celebration we went to, I wanted to make something with pumpkin that had traditional pumpkin pie flavour but was a bit different. I ended up making a simple yet delicious pumpkin roll cake.
Barb and I went to the Russsian Christmas bazaar at the Russian Centre on 4th Avenue today. Wonderful children's dancing, singing and performing as well as crafts and other stuff for sale.
But of course, we went for the food. The Borscht is a steal at $3 a bowl including great broth, cabbage, beets, sour cream and a slice of bread; an excellent lunch for one.

The variety and vitality of Vancouver's Chinese restaurants never ceases to amaze me. Green Village (2461 Nanaimo at Broadway, 604 258-9018), which serves excellent Northern Style food, and is highly recommended by my hairdresser at Scruple's on 4th who is originally from Shanghai, is a case in point.
