(via Ben Hammersley) - SushiFinder.com is a fun site to help you find sushi restaurants in various cities in the USA like Seattle and San Francisco. They have an excellent philosophy: "It's not about business plans, ROI's, or free soda in the fridge. Produced in the off-hours and sometimes when the boss isn't hovering, SushiFinder is an oasis from our real jobs.
I like HalfAGlass's approach to wine. It's down to earth and their manifesto rocks! Especially 9 and 10: "Taste with your own tongue", and "Drink". Looking forward to checking out their book too.
And they have a frequently updated blog which is informative, timely and fun.
VanEats is the first blog mentioned in the BC Blogging Sites and Blogs box in the Vancouver Sun's Saturday December 13 story entitled "Life is but a blog" by Gillian Shaw.
Thanks!
Of course it would be better if we could find the story online. I searched the Vancouver Sun's website which is supposed to have the last 14 days of stories but couldn't find it. If anybody else can find it, please leave a comment.
Jane Mundy writes (the HTML of her original post got garbled so I am transcribing it here). Please note that the page entitled Oppenheimer Park in the quoted part below is out of date (Jane needs a blog!) so here are the details for 2003:
To help with food on the day:
Date: Saturday December 20th, 2003 Place: Oppenheimer Park, West Side (Cordova St. & Dunlevy Avenue)

This quote from In San Francisco, Good Things Come on Small Plates makes my mouth water: "Several Moroccan-style tagines are available, and I can't imagine one better than the version composed of meltingly tender shredded veal cheeks, eggplant, dates and chickpeas."
We need to start saving for a trip to San Francisco!
Meanwhile, anybody know where I can get good Moroccan-style tagines in Vancouver? Please leave a comment if you do!
According to a flyer I received on my last visit, Guu with Otokomae is giving away two free glasses of champagne if you dine there between December 20 and 26. I assume this is for evening only and maybe they mean sparkling wine and not real French champagne! We love their food so much, it wouldn't matter if this was not true, but if you must have free booze, you might want to call them at 604 685-8682 to verify. See you there!
