Kevin's Going Away Brunch - Barb's Sugar Bacon

Barb and I had a small going away brunch for our friend Kevin today. Kevin is one of the best Lindy Hoppers in Vancouver and he is only 18! He's going to Europe to teach Lindy Hop and to continue his dance education. Bon voyage and Gute Reise, Kevin!

So as a sendoff, we had a small potluck brunch today with just the people that we know well who are also Kevin's friends. It would have been nice to have a large party with all of his friends but with the wedding we didn't have the time and energy to organize a big party.

Buying Moonstruck Organic Cheese at VanEast Farmers' Market

It was a beautiful day today in Vancouver and we went to the Van East Farmers' Market. While buying some of Moonstruck Organic Cheese's Blue Moon (an excellent blue cheese by the way!), we couldn't help but take a picture of their wonderful sign. According to James Barber, the cow's name is Blossum!

Guide to Cooking Filipino and Filipino Cooking Stuff

From my referers log, I found a link to "Your Guide to Cooking Filipino and Filipino Food Stuff" subsite of Tanikalang Ginto aka FilipinoLinks.com. For anybody with the slightest interest in Filipino food at all, there's lots of good links here.

One example would be The Cook's Thesauras: Cooking Greens.

Mini-Review: Jang Mo Jib Korean Restaurant

I'm getting to know Korean food better by trying out restaurants like Jang Mo Jib. This restaurant serves down to earth Korean dishes, specializing in a rich, homey beef broth. One can tell it's popular with many cultural groups, since its menu is in Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese! Check out my review.

Mini-review: Jang Mo Jib Korean Restaurant

A few weeks ago, Roland and I popped into Jang Mo Jib for dinner. We had passed it several times and had wanted to try it out, since we vaguely remembered reading about it's great beef soup. Since that first visit, I've taken my mum there and I'm impressed by their interesting and traditional Korean dishes.

FlavourFinder.com

Walter told me about FlavourFinder.com. It's a Vancouver commercial "restaurant portal" website devoted to food lovers featuring restaurant reviews( e.g. this review of Le Crocodile), and restaurant listings complete with menus, opening hours and maps and, optionally, the ability to order and make reservations online.

You can also join the site and have a customized "MyFlavourFinder.com" similar to "MyNetscape.com".

Rhubarb Season!

It's spring and rhubarb is popping out of local gardenbeds and at the markets. You can celebrate the tart, sunny flavour of fresh rhubarb in recipes such as rhubarb ginger muffins or try substituting rhubarb for half the fruit in your favourite apple pie or apple crisp.

Surat Sweet leaves 4th Avenue!?!

I was shocked to find out today that another Indian restaurant has taken Surat Sweet's place on 4th Avenue. Surat Sweet was one of my favourite restaurants, vegetarian or otherwise. I am sad to see it go. Hopefully, it has merely relocated and is not permanently gone. Regardless, many thanks to the owners for the awesome ambiance, and Gujerati cuisine that I have enjoyed at their restaurant since my arrival here in 1998! Needless to say, if anybody has any news, please let us know!

Gerardo and Leticia's Mole

As promised, here is Gerardo and Leticia's easy chicken mole recipe. It was the hit of our Cinco de Mayo celebration and I am sure you will love it also!
