I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Martha Stewart: I love how she sources out "good things" and re-packages them or markets them and makes things look like they're her idea. I hate how she treats her staff and how she takes a lot of credit for their work!
Anyway...this is my version of Martha's ginger jalapeno ricecakes. I made them for an appy party and topped them with cilantro lime mayonnaise and spicy grilled swordfish.

Every so often, I hear somebody speak German or I eat some German food and reminisce about the three and a half years that I spent living in Friedrichshafen, Germany.
The food at Blitzen Break is one of those places that causes pleasant flashbacks of my time in Germany from 1995-98.
The food is unpretentious and not gourmet but satisfying in its own right.
Every cook has his or her favourite kitchen tools. Using the right tools for the task can make a cooking experience a joy rather than a chore. I almost feel that some of my favourite tools act as an extension of my own hands and are invaluable in helping me cook and create what is on my mind and palate.
Here are some of my favourite tools:
Good quality knives: I love my chef knife set--8", 6" and paring. I keep them sharp and wash them by hand only. I also find our serrated knife indispensible. Good knives are the foundation of my kitchen!
