Heirloom tomatoes with olive oil from the Nat Bailey Farmers' Market

Barb's Pesto Roasted Chicken, Zucchini, Couscous and Heirloom tomatoes with olive oil - Wed01Sep2004

It's prime heirloom tomato season. Get the real tomato flavour experience now! The flavour is so good that you won't want to eat those plastic tomatoes that we get the rest of the year. The above tomatoes came from the wonderful Nat Bailey Farmers' Market.

Jays Spring Lamb is superb

At $6 a pound, Jay Springs Lambs ground lamb is not cheap but boy is it worth it. Juicy, flavourful and not gamey. Mmm, they make beautiful burgers. Worth checking them out the next time they are at the market which is scheduled for June 5 at the East Van Farmers market.

Opening day at the East Van Farmer's Market

It's officially summer for me now that the East Van Farmers' Market has started.

Saturday's inaugural market took place in our unusually warm and sunny May weather.

The vendors change every year and every week (here's the official vendor list) and there's always something new but the vibe remains the same. People getting out of the house to get real food that hasn't been overly processed or shipped thousands of miles.

Here are some of East Van Farmers Market opening day photos:

Farmers' Market starts this Saturday

The East Vancouver Farmers Market at East 15th and Victoria Dr. starts this Saturday May 15. It runs Saturdays 9a.m.-2p.m. until October 9, 2004. It's our favourite market. Looking forward to seeing what's new, snacking on our favourite goodies and buying locally grown seasonal produce. See you there!

Boris Mann's Farm Folk/City Folk 10th Anniversary at Heritage Hall Report

Check out Boris's Farm Folk/City Folk 10th Anniversary at Heritage Hall Report. Complete with cool photos. By the way, this part of my company's new Vancouver portal, UrbanVancouver. Wish we could have been there as Barb and I have been loyal supporters of their markets and events over the years dating back to their earlier years when Barb sold biscotti at one of their markets.

Much as we'd love to support this great cause, we probably won't be able to make it because we'll be tending to our soon to be born baby.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

Nat Bailey Stadium Farmers Market - Only 2 Wednesdays left

Yesterday, Barb forgot  to mention the Nat Bailey Stadium Farmers Market on Wednesdays.  Only two Wednesdays  left for this market! Remember that this is the best time of the year for fresh food direct from farmers.  Peak time for squash, apples, tomatoes, zucchini, etc.

Autumn Bounty

The East Van Farmers Market was hopping today! In the peak of harvest, the market stalls were full of gorgeous things ranging from beautiful flowers to picture perfect squash to rosy apples. Unfortunately we forgot our camera as we rushed out the door in the morning!

This is what we brought home (clockwise from left): organic arugula, organic cavolo nero, monster zucchini, organic basil, 4 varieties of organic heirloom tomatoes, green beans, blueberries (centre).

Nat Bailey Stadium Farmers Market

Yesterday I was starting to wonder if I could handle rationing the rest of our strawberries until we had a chance to visit a farmers market on the weekend. Luckily I remembered the Nat Bailey Farmers Market and I was able to leave work at a decent time.

And here's the stall of the farmer (Surrey Farm Produce, 604 574-1390) who sold us the delicious strawberries we mentioned yesterday:
