First Visit: Viva Fine Foods & Bakery

If Viva Fine Foods & Bakery Inc. (1555 Yew Street, 604 738-8482) were in our neighbourhood, then it would be one of our "happy places" just like La Petite France is!

What is the difference between the two places? Well, Viva is more Canadian! And La Petite France is very French!

This Year's Easter Treat from La Petite France

For the past two Easters, we have treated ourselves one uniquely beautiful and delicious treat from La Petite France.

This year we tried this beautiful swan. Amazing! Sponge cake with orange and lots of other tasty goodness. A delectable work of art for about $25. Highly recommended!

Mini-Review Mostly Martha

Barb and I watched the German movie, Mostly Martha, Sunday night.

It's about a neurotic chef in Hamburg and her quest for happiness after the death of her sister forces her to raise her niece.

It's well done but not a great movie.

Mini-Review: The Boss Bakery and Restaurant

Check out our mini-review of The Boss Bakery and Restaurant if you are looking for a cheap, cheerful and tasty place to grab a bite to eat in Chinatown.

Mini Review: The Boss Bakery and Restaurant in Chinatown

The Boss is an excellent place for inexpensive food in Chinatown. It's the kind of place you can take both your foodie friends and your non foodie friends and everybody can be happy. The ambiance is bright and pleasant with lots of people having a good time hanging out and enjoying the food. A great pitstop during a shopping or sightseeing tour of Chinatown!

It features a bakery at the front selling wonderful sweet and savoury pastries and cakes at reasonable prices such as mini pastries at 3 for about $1.10!.

The Mouse and the Bean Cafe's old location is now closed

I checked on Wednesday and The Mouse and the Bean Cafe's old location is now closed.

I am sure that they will be open soon at their new location at 207 West Hastings. I'll check next week and post a report.

Here's a photo of their farewell message at the old location.
