This sounds great. Would have loved to have tried out the Longwood Dunkelweizen!. Someday I'll make it The Whip (209 East 6th at Main, 604 874-4687) for this

Ideal British type pub for after dinner conversation with a big group

For future events like our Drupal and Civic Space dinner, I am looking for a quiet-ish British style pub where we can have conversations uninterrupted by loud music. If you know of a good place, please leave a comment.

For me the ideal place would:

Pender Island Porter from Gulf Island Brewery

Recently I tried and loved the creamy and not overly heavy Pender Island Porter from the Gulf Islands Brewery. A rare porter find in BC and a steal at $4.34 from the BC Liquor Stores for a big 650ml bottle.

Hacker-Pschorr Hefe Weisse

My favourite German beer is any "dunkles (dark) hefe weizen" (wheat beer).  Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot  of dunkles available here.  Yet another argument for de-regulation (it would be a great business to import German hefe weizen!).

Raspberry Hefe Weizen at the Yaletown Brewing Company

I really enjoyed the limited edition Raspberry Hefe Weizen (made with local raspberries) Friday at the Yaletown Brewing Company (1111 Mainland Street, 604 681 2739).

A perfect summer drink. It's a beer yes but it's not beer as you know it. And it doesn't taste like pop either.

First Hofbrauhaus outside of Germany is in Newport, Kentucky

I found out from the Cincinnati Post that the first Hofbrauhous outside of Germany is in Newport Kentucky. That's great for the lucky Kentucky folks, but give me Andechs over the Hofbrauhaus anytime! Wouldn't it be cool if we could somehow duplicate the Andechs experience (especially the delightfully tasty and big beer and the huge Schweinhaxen!) in Vancouver? I'd be there in a flash! Sounds like a business opportunity to me!

Andechs - A German mecca for beer lovers

If you love beer, you must make the pilgrimage once in your lifetime to the Andechs brewery on the outskirts of Munich.

When I lived in Germany, I had the pleasure of visiting Andechs multiple times. You must go! Wonderful beer (brewed onsite by monks since the 15th century), huge, tasty pieces of pork (Gegrillte Haxe) and incredibly large and wonderfully chewy pretzels.

(Via Al) After listening to Stephen Beaumont's north west beer recommendations in Real Audo, I am stoked to go to Portland to try their famous beer (e.g. Bridgeport and Portland Brewing Company (Porter! Porter!
