First Visit: Bis Moreno

High end but delightfully non-pretentious and excellent Italian tasting menus. That is Bis Moreno (1355 Hornby St., 604 669-2812) in a nutshell!

Some people spend their tax rebates on cars and mortgages.

Les amis du FROMAGE - photos

The fine folks at the awesome Les Amis Du FROMAGE have put up some cool new photos of their shop. So I thought I would share some of ours!

Higgins in Portland Oregon

Higgins rocks! Fresh, delicious organic regional food. And of course so do Al and Julie! I could write more but I was so engrossed in our conversation that I didn't take any notes mentally or otherwise. It's funny and great how bloggers who never met in real life but who have read each others' blogs can meet and instantly talk for hours like old friends.

Luckily, Al blogged some impressions of our Higgins dinner.

Cherry Pie with Coconut Crumb Topping

Cherry season is upon us! To make the best of the season, I baked a cherry pie, since Roland isn't fond of eating cherries straight. This pie is topped with a coconut crumb topping that complements the cherries. Delicious!

Pictures of Fried Ghost aka Yau tiu (Chinese Fried bread)

In last week's Georgia Straight, Stephen Wong wrote another excellent installment of what I call his 'decoding Chinese food for non-Chinese people'. I would link to it, except that searching the Straight archives is a difficult and time consuming task!

Anyways, here are some photos of the Fried Ghost aka You Tiao aka Chinese Fried Bread.

Hoda's in Portland, Oregon

Barb and I had an excellent Middle Eastern lunch today at Hoda's in Portland Oregon (3401 Se Belmont St Portland, OR 97214-4246, 503 236-8325) . The beef kebab with parsley which was part of the meat mezza (US $7.75) was fab. As was the kibbeh (US $8.25) (ground lamb stuffed with pine nuts, bulgur and onions).

We ended the meal with a Turkish coffee which was excellent. Strong but not bitter!

First Visit: Copper Onion Curry Bar

Philippe (who just started a printing business) and I enjoyed a very pleasant lunch at the Copper Onion Curry Bar (1331 Robson, 604 642-0755) a couple of weeks ago.

We both had extra hot chicken curry with rice for $6. The portion size was huge, and the food was tasty and VERY spicy. Yum! I love hot food!

Les Amis du Fromage move

As mentioned previously, Les Amis du Fromage, our favourite cheese shop, has moved to 1752 West 2nd Avenue. For weeks, we've been walking past their new location in anticipation.

Today we stopped by to welcome the staff to the 'hood and checked out their new digs. What a difference!
