If you don't have time to BBQ or to cook for a picnic and you are near East Van, Fujiya (912 Clark Drive, 604 251-3711) is a great place to pick up some picnic fixings. They have excellent Japanese fast food (sushi, bento boxes, etc.) as well as drinks. Barb and I picked up some sushi and some Spicy Chicken Karaage ($4 delicious! enough for 2) last Sunday at 10ish on our way to the beach. Perfect picnic food if you want something different.
Hmmmm. What do you think? I think this is a whole culture shift that won't fly in North America! I got along just fine without tipping in Germany (ok, well you round up a Euro or two or three or four or five but you certainly don't add 10-20%!) to the point where I had a hard time re-adjusting after 3.5 years there!
(Via email) This sounds great! Calling all Filipino bloggers, foodies or not! Read the whole thing and help celebrate freedom on the occasion of Ninoy Aquino's 22nd death anniversary!
Here's an email tip we received about the recently opened Burger Etc. at 4091 Hastings Street (604 299-8959):
"this mom and pop shop features homemade (ground chuck steak) burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, beef brisket sandwhiches, ribs, chicken and their homemade fresh-cut fries and apparently addictive".
Sounds great! If anybody has tried it, please leave a comment or send us an email.
