Anybody been to Pia's Take-A-Lunch?

Our craving for Scandanavian food that was started by our item on Danish recipes was heightened by Jurgen Goethe's sandwhich feature in this week's Georgia Straight.

Don't forget Vancouver food websites, Dave!

We were very surprised and a bit disappointed that Dave Watson's Dot Comment column on Food Web Sites in this week's Georgia Straight doesn't have any Vancouver websites.

We would like to respectfully point out that Vancouver has lots of great food related websites such as Adam's Vancouver Dining Guide and and of course VanEats.

Georgia Straight Golden Plate Winers 2002

The Georgia Straight's Golden Plate Awards for 2002 came out today.

It's always interesting to see what the readers of the Georgia Straight vote for.

There are lots of great reader picks in there and some that are not so great. Like any other awards you can't take it too seriously; at least it's food for thought!

Lotus Pond in Victoria

After we asked for Victoria restaurant recommendations, Sebastian recommended the Lotus Pond Buddhist Vegetarian Restaurant at 617 Johnson Street, telephone 250 380 9293. Thanks Sebastian! We'll try it out the next time we are in Victoria.

Danish Recipes

Via pinds.com, I found Christian's Danish Recipe Site. It is chock full of excellent looking Danish recipes such as Desserts and Breads. My favourite is the open faced sandwhich (or smorgasbord) section of the site. Check it!

Golda's Kitchen for cooking supplies and spices

In response to Shelley's query about a BC mail order source of hard to find outside of a big city spices, Brenda wrote us an email pointing us to Golda's Kitchen. Thanks Brenda!

Although they are not in BC, Brenda writes that orders are shipped promptly and wrapped securely and she has no problems with the merchandise she has ordered from them.

Where to eat in Victoria

Leo, one of our readers, emailed us to ask about good restaurants in Victoria. Barb and I have both been to Victoria a few times but are not experts on the food scene there. If anybody can recommend good restaurants in Victoria (or better yet a site like VanEats in Victoria), please reply to this news item (requires quick and painless membership) or email us. Thanks!

Crepe Montagne at Whistler

Our friends, Steve and Denise, had a free place to stay this weekend up at Whistler.

We took up their offer to stay with them and had great fun snowboarding and snowshoeing and of course eating.

We ate at Crepe Montagne for the second time yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it! Check out our mini-review for more details.

Mini Review: Crepe Montagne at Whistler

Dining out at Whistler is generally expensive. Happily, however there are few exceptions and Crepe Montagne is one of them.

Crepe Montagne is a small charming restaurant in Whistler Marketplace that serves delicious and inexpensive food.

Appropriately enough, they serve both sweet (with chocolate, fruits, etc.) and savoury crepes. They also serve waffles and pancakes and are open not just for breakfast but also for lunch and supper.

Barb and I have only been there twice. Both times we have had breakfast crepes.

Reminder: Dining Out for Life TONIGHT

Dining Out for Life is tonight! If you can, please dine at one of the participating restaurants or if you can't please donate to A Loving Spoonful, Friends For Life, or your favourite AIDS charity.

Please see our previous item for more details.
