BKR, one of our readers, gave us his feedback on the Georgia Straight Golden Plate Winners for 2002. Food for thought! Thanks for checking out our website. If anybody else has any feedback please don't hesitate to let us know what you think (requires quick, and painless site membership).
Anyhow, an interesting fact that I learned from this Hot Cross Bun recipe is that Hot Cross buns date back to pre-Christian times and that the cross on the buns was a pagan symbol for the Sun wheel and the spring equinox..
We attended the free (donation of $18 per adult suggested) Passover Seder at the Lubavitch Centre (5750 Oak St., 604 266 1313) tonight.
It consisted of a brief 20 minute religious service followed by the Seder.
For the service, we were given prayer books in Hebrew and English. The interesting thing about the service for Barb and I was the singing and the fact that it was segregated with the men on one side and the women on the other.
We found the entire event informative, enlightening and inclusive.
Spring is finally here! As the weather warms up and days are starting to get longer, I'm itching to garden. This year I will have to adjust from gardening in my dad's back yard to having a balcony gardening.
This weekend I'll be sowing seeds for some mixed mesclun greens and arugula (of course!). While it's still early in the season, I'll probably plant some radishes as well. I'll be using seeds from West Coast Seeds.
She recommends Cafe-Brio (944 Fort Street, 250 383 0009). It serves "West Coast Food with a Tuscan hint" and has received lots of good reviews.
Yet another restaurant to try the next time we are in Victoria! It certainly sounds like something we would like, since Tuscany is one of our favourite places to eat.
