[Editor's Note: This newsitem was created by one of our readers by the name of "swamper". It's curious that Great Grate comes from Swamper Products, so maybe swamper works for Swamper Products or is just a devoted fan. Can anybody solve the mystery?
On the weekend I made this great barbeque sauce. It's smokey, rich and definitely whiskey laced! I used the sauce to baste chicken wings every 12 minutes as they baked. The sauce would be wonderful on ribs!
1 small onion, diced 4 cloves garlic, minced 1/2 cup whiskey 2 cups ketchup 1/4 cup vinegar 2 Tbsp. tomato paste 1/4 cup Worchestershire sauce 1/3 cup brown sugar 2 Tbsp. liquid smoke 1/2 tsp. pepper 1/2 tsp. salt
In a medium saucepan, combine onion, garlic and whiskey. Simmer over medium heat for about 7 minutes or until onion is translucent. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 20 minutes. Puree in food processor or blender. Refrigerate for at least 1 day to blend flavours.
As a food lover, I love the Vancouver Magazine Annual Restaurant Awards. As a website developer and website designer, I unfortunately can't say the same about their website.
First, let's start with the good. The Vancouver Magazine 13th Annual Restaurant Awards are out and just as enjoyable and informative as ever. I would link to them here but they are not online yet! More about the Vancouver Magazine web presence later.

Well I am happy to report that the chopper has earned a place in our kitchen.
It's great for chopping fiddly things that tend to roll around like nuts. We use it for chopping peanuts for Padh Thai and for chopping hard boiled eggs for making egg salad sandwiches.
It's not an essential gadget because you can chop with an ordinary knife.
This article by Mark Bittman in the New York Times describes this basic cooking truth, " ...good simple food, prepared with care and even a minimum of thought, is appreciated by anyone who likes to eat'". Amen for that!
