Mini-Review: the kolachy shop

Kolachys are excellent for breakfast, lunch and for snacks in-between. And the Kolachy Shop is the place to eat them. Check out our mini-review of the kolachy shop for more details.

exculina's Vancouver Restaurant Guide

exculina's Vancouver Restaurant Guide, which I found through a comment on Caterina.net, is excellent (except for the dim sum omission but that's easy: go to Spicy Court or Sun Sui Wah!). We totally agree about Guu. It's fab for every budget and every hour!

Blitzen Break no longer in operation, restaurant for sale

Blitzen Break is no longer operating and is for sale! Too bad! I think the concept was sound and with the VFS and Dressew nearby there's some money to be made. Best of luck to the new owners whoever they turn out to be!

Pia's Kaffe proprietors have retired!?!

Sian writes in (thanks!) to tell us that the fine proprietors of Pia's have retired. Thanks for all the great food over the years!

Does anybody know anywhere else one can find Scandinavian sandwiches like Pia's?

First Visit: Maurya Indian Cuisine

Vancouver's large south Asian community has enriched the city in many ways not least of which are some wonderful restaurants and Maurya Indian Cuisine (1643 West Broadway, 604 742-0622) is definitely one them.

If Vij's chaotic coolness served up with exuberant energy by Vikram Vij is one great end of the Vancouver Indian dining spectrum, then Maurya'

Pia's Kaffe moved, out of business or retired?

It appears that Pia's Kaffee has moved, gone out of business or retired. I hope that they have moved because I have a craving for their Scandinavian sandwiches!

If anybody knows what happened, please leave a comment!

In the meantime, here's a photo I took on May 15 (I walked by today and nothing has changed).

Guu with Garlic

I am happy to report that Guu with Garlic (1698 Robson Street, 604 685-8678 ) is just as delightful as its sibling Guu!

Excellent Japanese food in small plates ideal for sharing. We particularly enjoyed the Spicy Vegetable for $2.80 which consisted of a wonderful crispy (but not too crispy) Japanese lettuce combined with a nice level of spicy heat.

Natraj Fine Indian Cuisine - Another place to try

Both Tim Pawsey and SaabKen recommend Natraj Fine Indian Cuisine (805 West Broadway, 604 874-5800) for its spectuacular North Shore Mountain view and Indian food at a good price. Gonna have to check this one out!

Umberto's Gastown Menu

Every day I walk by Umberto's Gastown restaurant Borgo Antico and see things like Monday's dinner menu which is shown above. It reminds me of a very pleasant business lunch we had there last year. Need to go back and do a mini-review! Eines Tages!

The Reef on Main - another West Indian / Caribbean restaurant to try

I totally forgot about The Reef on Main when I asked about Caribbean / West Indian restaurants in Vancouver. The menu looks fabulous. We will have to eat their soon. Thanks to mnorrie for the tip!
