First Visit: Mexico Sabroso

Mexico Sabroso (440 West Hastings, 604 688 7426) serves good honest, inexpensive Mexican food in an informal setting.

My friend, David, and I tried their lunch today. I had four tacos for $7 (soft shell mmmm!): al pastor (pork in a red spice sauce), birria (lamb), lenua (tongue) and pollo asado (roast chicken).

My favourite was the pork in a red spice sauce.

Mini Review: Provence Mediterannean Grill by SaabKen

Provence Mediterranean Grill is of one of the many restaurants we have wanted to try but due to lack of money and time haven't.

Luckily, one of our readers, Saab Ken has. Check out Ken's mini-review of Provence Mediterranean Grill!

Thanks for sending us another mini-review Ken! As always, we welcome further contributions from our readers (requires free membership).

Roti Bistro's Excellent Callaloo Soup

Last weekend, we went for another excellent meal at the Roti Bistro.

Barb tried the callaloo (a spinach like vegetable) soup. It was a pureed soup with a wonderfully spicy flavour.

If you order the soup, which is about four bucks, and a double for $2.25 (flatbread stuffed with tasty curried chick peas; available Saturday and Sunday), then you have an excellent meal for under $10! Highly Recommended!

Plunk and Georgia Straight review Feenie's

After yesterday's item about Feenie's, one of our readers, Plunk, left a comment about her positive review of Feenie's (with photos!) (free membership required). The menu seems reasonable "The Mains are actually all under $20 and everything under Rob's Favorites is under $20 with the exception of Steak & Fries ($23) and the Foie Gras/Short Ribs extra ($25).

Feenie's is now open

Based on this early review that I found at eGullet's forums, it looks like Feenie's (beside 2551 West Broadway , 604 739-7115, the more casual sister restaurant of Lumiere) is now open. Curious about the food of course!

First Visit: Kaya on Broadway

We had an excellent lunch today at Kaya (2283 West Broadway, 604 734 0661).

We started off with Five Pepper Calamari for five bucks which featured a wonderful wasabi mayo dip. Mmmm.

Barb had a sesame chicken salad for $7 with chicken breast coated in sesame seeds.

Mr. Pickwick's Fish & Chips added to directory

In response to an email from one of the staff, we have added Mr. Pickwick's Fish & Chips (8620 Granville Street, 604 266-2340) to our Vancouver Restaurant Sites directory.

Barb and I love fish and chips! One day, we will have to try this place out. If anybody has eaten there, please leave a comment.

First Visit: Bis Moreno

High end but delightfully non-pretentious and excellent Italian tasting menus. That is Bis Moreno (1355 Hornby St., 604 669-2812) in a nutshell!

Some people spend their tax rebates on cars and mortgages.

First Visit: Copper Onion Curry Bar

Philippe (who just started a printing business) and I enjoyed a very pleasant lunch at the Copper Onion Curry Bar (1331 Robson, 604 642-0755) a couple of weeks ago.

We both had extra hot chicken curry with rice for $6. The portion size was huge, and the food was tasty and VERY spicy. Yum! I love hot food!
