Free Champagne at Guu with Otokomae Dec 20-26, 2003

According to a flyer I received on my last visit, Guu with Otokomae is giving away two free glasses of champagne if you dine there between December 20 and 26.  I assume this is for evening only and maybe they mean sparkling wine and not real French champagne!  We love their food so much, it wouldn't matter if this was not true, but if you must have free booze,  you might want to call them  at 604 685-8682 to verify.  See you there!

Here's a photo of the flyer:

VegEats - Vegan and Vegetarian Recipe and Restaurant Site

VegEats is a collection of links to vegan and vegetarian restaurants and recipes.  No RSS file to subscribe to so it's hard to keep up with the site but it looks like a great reference.  Check it out.

Support Farm Folk / City Folk by buying their calendar for $4.99

Barb and I noticed tonight at Choices that Farm Folk/City Folk are selling 2004 calendars.  $1.00 goes to Farm Folk/City folk and it's not just a calendar; it's a veritable treasure trove of info about the BC farmers who feed us.  Check it!

We'll be buying one soon.

World-Wide Sushi Restaurant Reference

Founded way back in 1994, The World-Wide Sushi Restaurant Guide (which I found through Derek Miller's excellent penmachine although I can't find the exact entry) is a compendium of the world's sushi restaurants along with  helpful glossary which has great information about sushi and Japanese food in general .

Barb and I had so much fun at the Gung Haggis Fat Choy dinners in 2002 and 2003 that I started a blog about it called GungHaggisFatChoy.com with Toddish McWong, the creative genius behind the Gung Haggis Fat Choy dinners.  Check it out!

William Grimes stepping down as New York Times Critic

A Critic's Coda is a fascinating interview with William Grimes who will step down on December 31st as New York Times food critic.  I love the following quote where he talks about eating four star meals day in and day out:
