The days are getting longer and it's getting warmer...spring is just around the corner! Every year around this time I pick up a catalogue for West Coast Seeds. They specialize in seeds for growing organic vegetables, herbs and flowers that thrive on the west coast of Canada.
To call WCS's publication a catalogue is a bit of a misnomer...it's more of a gardening guide/handbook packed with all sorts of extremely helpful gardening tips, tools and supplies along with seeds. And this year, they're carrying a line of whole foods.
I took my mother's salmon and tomato recipe (which is not spicy) and evolved it over the years under the tutelage of my friend, Roel and came up with my own spicy salmon recipe. It has become a winter staple. I find that the spiciness of the dish blends nicely with the tomatoes and the salmon.
2 tablespoons olive oil 2 cloves garlic minced 1 medium onion chopped fine 1 green pepper chopped into 1/4 inch pieces 1 teaspoon hot pepper flakes 3 drops Dave' s Insanity Sauce (optional) 14 oz can chopped tomatoes 6 oz can pink or sockeye salmon
The Gourmet Warehouse is a foodie's shopping delight! They carry all sorts of interesting gourmet ingredients and cooking equipment at reasonable prices. Drop in for a gourmet shopping spree or do some virtual shopping online.
The Gourmet Warehouse is a wonderful place to shop for gourmet foods at reasonable prices. They carry an impressive variety of often difficult to find ingredients and some interesting kitchenwares.
When you walk through the alley entrance to the Warehouse (it really is in a warehouse district!), you're hit with bright displays of hundreds of items that any foodie would want to try. From a wide range of condiments to pastas to cheeses to sweets... I could spend hours there checking out new items.
Last week I had tapas with some friends at La Bodega. They serve a wide selection of Spanish hot and cold, vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices. Perfect way of enjoying a light flavourful meal or to remind you of the sunnier climate of Spain. Be sure to order some sangria too!
Every few months, I get together with a group of girlfriends for a girl's night out full of gossip, chit chat and good laughs. This time we went to La Bodega, a long time Vancouver establishment for Spanish food and tapas.
I'm partial to tapas...I love trying out a variety of tastes in a meal. So the appetizer sized portions of tapas allows one to order several dishes to sample and share.
