It's being held yesterday, today and tomorrow at the Hellenic Community Center at 4500 Arbutus Street. Today and tomorrow the hours are noon to 11p.m.
In addition to featuring inexpensive Greek food and desserts, there are also Greek cookbooks, T-Shirts and other products from Greece on sale as well as music, dancing by Greek dance troups, and activities for young and old.
Yesterday, at a friend's birthday party, we met Margriet Dogterom head of Beediverse products.
Beediverse is a local bee and bee product distributor and consultancy based in Coquitlam.
Margriet told us that they are coming out with a new line of honeys. in the near future! Something we will definitely check out and do a full report on when it comes out!
We're getting married today and here's what we're serving up at our wedding swing dance:
Wedding cake (made by Barb!) Mohnkuchen (German Poppy Seed Cake) Apple Strudel Mexican wedding cakes Almond cookies Chinese wife pastries Kalamay Sesame balls Fruit platter
In my quest to find some good draft beer for our upcoming wedding, I came across John Yuill's British Columbia Beer Guide.
It is an invaluable resource for anybody who wants to know anything about BC Microbrews; not just people looking for kegs of microbrew for their wedding as I was. Check it out! It is well worth it!
As Angela Murrills writes in the Sept./Oct. 2001 Expedia Travels magazine, part of our mission is to "clue you in on lesser-known and ethnic spots" or "hole in the walls" as I like to call them!
I realized after reading her article that we have not consolidated this information, so I have gathered up the reviews of all my favourite restaurants of 2001 (which happen to be ethnic "hole in the walls") into a story called Roland's Favourite Restaurants 2001.
If Barb and I weren't saving up for our wedding, we would be going to tomorrow's Festival of Fields at UBC's South Campus Farm from 1p.m. to 5p.m. because top local restaurants + local produce from local fields + charity = fun for a good cause! Fresh local produce prepared by chefs from top restaurants for $60! Definitely a good deal!
I am totally addicted to Uprising Breads' (604 254 5635, 1697 Venables, near Ace of Suedes (warning AoS's website has annoying e-commerce popups which fortunately are easily removed!) Whole Wheat Raisin Bread. It's sweet, wonderful and because it's whole wheat almost good for you. Toasted and slathered with peanut butter and washed down with milk or orange juice it's a true power breakfast!
