We basically said it all in our kolachy shop First Visit report. Cheap and delicious kolachys (mild sweet bread filled with sweet or savoury ingredients; one is a nice snack; two are a meal!) in a nice atmosphere served by nice people.
Here's the executive summary: for savoury ($2.75) try the BBQ beef, reuben and baked veggie (goat cheese with marinated and baked veggies) and for sweet ($1.50) get the apple and cheddar or our personal favourite the poppy seed (almost as heavenly as Mohnkuchen)!
Anne, one of our readers, wrote in (thanks!) to tell us that Dubrulle has been sold to the US Based company, Education Management Corporation (EDMC) and will relocate to an expanded space in the Pacific Centre this fall.
Hmm. Can't wait to see what effect this has on the Vancouver food scene. I bet it will be positive. An expanded and more centrally located Dubrulle is a good thing!
As a result, I am contemplating putting Google Ads on VanEats in order to raise some money. The ads are unobtrusive I think and are supposed to be topical. In other words they should be food (and hopefully Vancouver related).
The Infuze Tea House (604 688-3170, 870 West Cordova Street) looks like an awesome place to sip tea, especially Japanese tea. Looking forward to trying it in the near future!
If you love beer, you must make the pilgrimage once in your lifetime to the Andechs brewery on the outskirts of Munich.
When I lived in Germany, I had the pleasure of visiting Andechs multiple times. You must go! Wonderful beer (brewed onsite by monks since the 15th century), huge, tasty pieces of pork (Gegrillte Haxe) and incredibly large and wonderfully chewy pretzels.
The rum tartufo flavour at La Casa Gelato is wonderful. A nice full on rum flavour! Kind of like Ritter Sport's Rum Trauben Nuss without the Trauben (Raisin) und Nuss (Hazelnut)! A great way to cool down on a hot summer night for only $3 a scoop!
Highly recommended! Warning! La Casa changes its flavours often so get it while you can!
