For future events like our Drupal and Civic Space dinner, I am looking for a quiet-ish British style pub where we can have conversations uninterrupted by loud music. If you know of a good place, please leave a comment.
Not only does Pondok Indonesia serve small groups well, they also served 24 hungry Drupal hackers, CivicSpace enthusiasts, open source people and political activists at a dinner I organized last Friday night with patience, grace and most importantly great food. Highly recommended!
Our local East Van coffee shop/bistro Libby's is now open until 8:30p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Does this mean they are now serving dinner? I hope so. I will find out and report here but if anybody knows, please leave a comment.

This is the BC Chefs Association website. Interesting tidbits of information even if you're not a chef nor work in the restaurant/hospitality industry.
If you are a long-time VanEats reader, you may have noticed that some posts disappear. The latest example would be Friday's post pointing to Saab Ken's BCAA post. I posted this at 4a.m. on Friday and now it is gone! I will post it again next but this is annoying to say the least. I believe this is due to the software that drives this site crashing and reverting to an older version of the database (thus losing the post). I plan to address this soon by moving to a new system.
German food gets a bad rap, but it ain't bad and ads like these which paint a stereotypical picture of Germany don't help. Like Filipino food, it is more down home and cozy than urbane and sophisticated. And there are tons of delicious regional dishes that never seem to make it outside of the country. Most of the German food you hear about outside of Germany is food from southern German, in particular Bavarian. But although Bavarian food is delicious, there is lots more from all the other regions of Germany.
According to their latest ad in the Courier, Libby's has free WiFi.
I need to check out the free WiFi as well as write a mini-review (summary: delicious paninis and soup, highly recommended)! So much to write, so little time!
