For many home gardeners, it's plum season and there's an overabundance of plums. Our friends Rebecca and John gave us some beautiful plums that are red and shaped like prune plums but are much larger. We ate a few as they were and baked the rest into this delicious plum streusel cake. Try it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
2 cups flour 1 cup sugar 1 Tbsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 2 large eggs 1/4 cup oil 1 cup buttermilk 1 tsp. vanilla 6 to 7 medium plums, quartered lengthwise or 8 to 10 prune plums, halved
I love cooking and I really enjoy Bruce Cole's Sauté Wednesday Weblog. Imagine if Mr. Cole were able to write the blog full-time? What if FoodTV or Food & Wine were to pay him to do it?
Last year we got some excellent kitchen knives for wedding gifts and recently they were starting to get dull. I brought them to Quality Saw and Knife for sharpening and the knives passed the tomato test!
Good quality, sharp knives are one of the most important kitchen tools you can have. I'm fanatical about my knives...wash and dry immediately after using (never in the dishwasher!!), store them in the knife block with the cutting edge up, don't use knives to pry or scrape. The list goes on!
