Czechvar - ain't nothing like the real thing!

I am a big fan of the legendary Czech beer, Pilsner Urquell. In my opinion it puts other pilsners to shame.

So when I read in the Georgia Straight two weeks ago about Czechvar, the original Budweiser, being available at the LDB for $2.75 a bottle, I had to try it.

Plum Streusel Cake

For many home gardeners, it's plum season and there's an overabundance of plums. Our friends Rebecca and John gave us some beautiful plums that are red and shaped like prune plums but are much larger. We ate a few as they were and baked the rest into this delicious plum streusel cake. Try it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Saute Wednesday

Sauté Wednesday is an excellent food blog written by Bruce Cole. Read it!

I found out about this blog from Meg Hourihan's excellent Blogging for Dollars: Giving Rise to the Professional Blogger where she writes:

I love cooking and I really enjoy Bruce Cole's Sauté Wednesday Weblog. Imagine if Mr. Cole were able to write the blog full-time? What if FoodTV or Food & Wine were to pay him to do it?

Quality Saw & Knife

Last year we got some excellent kitchen knives for wedding gifts and recently they were starting to get dull. I brought them to Quality Saw and Knife for sharpening and the knives passed the tomato test!

Knife Sharpening at Quality Saw & Knife

Good quality, sharp knives are one of the most important kitchen tools you can have. I'm fanatical about my knives...wash and dry immediately after using (never in the dishwasher!!), store them in the knife block with the cutting edge up, don't use knives to pry or scrape. The list goes on!
