Diwali delights at Bhaia Sweet Shop and Restaurant

Last Saturday, Barb and picked up some sweets for Diwali from the Bhaia Sweet Shop and Restaurant (5740 Fraser, 604 323-2100).  The sweets are sold by the pound and very inexpensive.  Gulab jamun, halva, burfi, etc.  All arranged wonderfully on a huge table where the restaurant normally is.  Mmmm!

Like all Indian sweet shops, they also serve savoury food such as curries, samosas, and pakoras.

Inspired by The Italian quarter, an article in the Vancouver Courier about the last remaining Italian shops in Chinatown, we wrote our own story on Tosi and Company.  Check it out!

Les Amis du Fromage move

As mentioned previously, Les Amis du Fromage, our favourite cheese shop, has moved to 1752 West 2nd Avenue. For weeks, we've been walking past their new location in anticipation.

Today we stopped by to welcome the staff to the 'hood and checked out their new digs. What a difference!

Les amis du Fromage opening on 2nd soon next to Lebeau

Somehow we've neglected to write up a mini-review of our current favourite cheese shop, les amis du FROMAGE. If you love cheese, you must go there! You will love it! Great cheeses, great selection, great prices.

They are moving at the beginning of July from their current cramped location on 10th Avenue in Kits to a greatly expanded space on 2nd Avenue next door to one of our other favourites, Patisserie Lebeau.

What a great combo it will be!

First Visit: Viva Fine Foods & Bakery

If Viva Fine Foods & Bakery Inc. (1555 Yew Street, 604 738-8482) were in our neighbourhood, then it would be one of our "happy places" just like La Petite France is!

What is the difference between the two places? Well, Viva is more Canadian! And La Petite France is very French!

This Year's Easter Treat from La Petite France

For the past two Easters, we have treated ourselves one uniquely beautiful and delicious treat from La Petite France.

This year we tried this beautiful swan. Amazing! Sponge cake with orange and lots of other tasty goodness. A delectable work of art for about $25. Highly recommended!
