Hugo Restaurant - A place to try!

Anne Garber's review of Hugo (a newish Chinese restaurant at 4254 Cambie at 16th 604 877-0922) makes us want to try it. Sounds like a Hong-Kong style cafe which serves both "Western" (i.e. Chinese versions of western food) as well as Chinese and other types of Asian food. One of our favourite kinds of restaurants! Can't wait to try it!

REMINDER: Dine Out Vancouver 24Jan-02Feb 2003

Just a reminder about Dine Out Vancouver 2003 which will take place from 24 January - 2 February.

$25 for a three course meal and $15 for a two course meal at fine restaurants such as William Tell, Raincity Grill and many many more! Such a deal!

See you there!

The Mouse & the Bean Cafe moving to Cambie and Hastings

While chatting with the nice people at The Mouse and The Bean Cafe, I found out today that they are moving in February to Hastings and Cambie where the Victory Cafe used to be. Congrats on the expansion and the move!

I am sure that their food will be just as tasty (in particular I like their chicken quesadillas!) in the new location.

La Petite France on vacation Jan 5-22, 2003

Forgot to mention in yesterday's La Petite France item that they are taking a well-deserved vacation from January 5-22, 2003 inclusive. La Petite France will re-open on January 23, 2003. Something to look forward to!

First Visit: Legendary Noodle on Main

My friend Alvin, his son and I ate lunch today at Legendary Noodle (4191 Main Street (at 26th), 604 879-8758) which is a Beijing Chinese style dumpling and noodle house.

In 2001 and 2002, Alvin spent several months in Beijing and based on that experience, he tells me that this restaurant compares favorably with noodle and dumpling houses there.

Zizanie's Christmas Eve Dinner

One more thing: Because we are too exhausted from entertaining, baking and getting ready for Swing Out Northwest 2002, we will be enjoying the Christmas Eve dinner at Zizanie (1607 West 7th Avenue, 604 738 7387).

For $20 per person, you get a buffet of their tasty French Canadian food and live entertainment starting at 7p.m. and ending at about 10 or 11.

New Restaurant that replaced the Stinking Rose in Burnaby?

One of our readers, Paul Williams, is looking for the name of the restaurant (also info about it) that replaced the Stinking Rose in Burnaby. If anybody knows, please let us know!

Foo's Ho Ho Mea Culpa

My apologies to the people at Foo's Ho Ho restaurant in Chinatown. On December 12, I mistakenly called their restaurant Foo's Hoo Hoo. This is wrong! The correct name is Foo's Ho Ho,. I have corrected the December 12th item.

First report: Venus Cafe in Richmond

The Venus Cafe is one of the many cafes (like the Teatriz Cafe) that caters to the large Cantonese speaking population in Richmond.

No need to worry if you can't speak Cantonese! I don't (although I am learning since Barb's parents are from Hong Hong) and have no problems there!

The room is colourfully decorated and inviting. I have only had lunch there.

Lunch at Foo's Ho Ho

UPDATE: December 15. This restaurant is called Foo's Ho Ho NOT Foo's Hoo Hoo as I originally wrote on December 12th! My apologies. I have corrected the rest of this story.

I had lunch today with Larry Wong, a Chinatown insider, at Foo's Hoo HooFoo's Ho Ho at 102 East Pender Street.
