My friend Alvin, his son and I ate lunch today at Legendary Noodle (4191 Main Street (at 26th), 604 879-8758) which is a Beijing Chinese style dumpling and noodle house.
In 2001 and 2002, Alvin spent several months in Beijing and based on that experience, he tells me that this restaurant compares favorably with noodle and dumpling houses there.
I've never been to Beijing, but authentic or not, this restaurant certainly serves up some delicious food.
We had a plate of steamed gailan, a bowl of fresh shredded pork and pickled cabbage with wide noodles cut in short lengths ($5.80), a bowl of noodle soup with pork ribs ($5.80) and ten dumplings in Hot and Sour Soup & Mushroom and Bamboo ($6!).
The noodles were superb, not over cooked! And the broth in all the soups was tasty. For instance the hot and sour soup's flavours were clear and unmuddied sour and hot notes.
Great winter food! Big portions! We could have easily just ordered 2 bowls of soup and split that between the three of us and still have been full. Can't wait to come back for a mini-review!
