At today's Nat Bailey Farmers' Market, Barb and I bought some delightful Nuclear Nectar from Oddball Organics (604 514-9277, Langley store featuring this and other products made with ingredients from their organic farm opening soon!) for $10.
Nuclear Nectar is a wonderfully hot AND sweet organic concoction made up cayenne, habanero, honey, garlic, lemon juice and apple cider vinegar.
And it looks like his blog has got off to a fine start. Check it out! And if you have a food blog that's not in our directory, please feel free to suggest a link.
To celebrate the arrival of our new Weber barbeque, we grilled up a Vietnamese style meal. One of our bbq items was lemongrass chicken. I was looking for the flavour similar to the lemongrass chicken dishes that we eat at local Vietnamese restaurants which is slightly different from our previously posted lemongrass pork (or chicken) recipe.
Craig MacPherson emailed us about his restaurant in Coquitlam, Craig's Cafe & Tapas Bar (1046A Austin Avenue Coquitlam, 604 936-4141): "We have been winning awards for our breakfasts and lunches for the past 4 years and have recently opened at night as a Tapas Bar. " It sounds great.
Mexico Sabroso (440 West Hastings, 604 688 7426) serves good honest, inexpensive Mexican food in an informal setting.
My friend, David, and I tried their lunch today. I had four tacos for $7 (soft shell mmmm!): al pastor (pork in a red spice sauce), birria (lamb), lenua (tongue) and pollo asado (roast chicken).
Marinade: 1/4 cup fish sauce 1 Tbsp. soy sauce 2 Tbsp. sugar 1 Tbsp. dried lemongrass, ground or 3 stalks fresh lemongrass, ground 1 shallot, minced 2 cloves garlic, minced
2 lb. pork chops, chicken pieces
Combine all marinade ingredients in a large bowl. Add pork or chicken. Cover and refrigerate for at least 8 hours and up to 24 hours. Grill over medium heat until meat is cooked through, about 8 minutes per side for pork chops.

Last night after rounding up a few friends to go to the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association's fundraising event at the Vancouver Rowing Club, we decided to go seek dinner. "M", our ever-adventurous gourmand, suggested the Foundation Lounge on Main at 7th (2301 Main Street, 604 708-0881) .
