First Visit: Mexico Sabroso

Mexico Sabroso (440 West Hastings, 604 688 7426) serves good honest, inexpensive Mexican food in an informal setting.

My friend, David, and I tried their lunch today. I had four tacos for $7 (soft shell mmmm!): al pastor (pork in a red spice sauce), birria (lamb), lenua (tongue) and pollo asado (roast chicken).

My favourite was the pork in a red spice sauce. Tender meat with flavourful but not spicy at all sauce.

David had three Sopes (thick corn tortillas with beans lettuce, sour cream, feta and avocado) for $7.00: chicken, vegetarian and soft pork (carnitas). They were all good but much to my surprise my favourite was the vegetarian. Something about green pepper, mushroom, and onions with Mexican spices in the vegetarian Sopes just worked for me today.

And we washed it down some refreshing Agua fresca de la michoacana (fresh fruit water) for $2.50. These drinks were huge and had lots of fruit. I really enjoyed my strawberry and David's mango looked good too.

I'll definitely be back for a full mini-review soon. In the meantime here are some photos:
