Biscotti di prato reminds me of some of the flavours we experienced on our trip to Tuscany...fennel seed, crunchy almonds, rustic texture. It's perfect for dipping into vin santo or a good strong cup of expresso. They keep well in a well sealed container for a few weeks.
Yesterday, we bought an excellent and inexpensive baguette at Patisserie Lebeau. Check out our mini-review of Patisserie Lebeau for more details on their excellent baguettes, pastries and waffles.
[UPDATE November 2002]: Not only does this patisserie have excellent desserts, they also have excellent baguettes. At only $1.75, they are a definite bargain!
If you are hungry for a French pastry or a Belgian waffle, Patisserie Lebeau is the place to go. On Sunday, they have awesome Belgian waffles and the rest of the time they serve traditional, wonderful French and Belgian cakes and pastries.
The location, just east of Burrard on 2nd avenue, is a bit out of the way but the trek is worth it.
Last Saturday, I had a chocolate eclair there and as always it was heavenly.

My friend Gene and his partner recently started eating only organic food and he recommended the meat from 3P Poultry Plus in North Van. Not only do they have chicken but they also have pork, beef and more exotic meats like buffalo and ostrich. After watching Deconstructing Supper, we are definitely moving towards a more organic diet. Another place for us to check out! If you have been there, please let us know what you thought.
We found out from Gary and Naty that their farm has a Saturday market on Saturdays from 9:30 to 5p.m. where they sell their organic produce in season as well as other organic products.
We'll definitely be making the trek out to Surrey to check this market out some Saturday soon!
