For some reason unbeknownst to me, I mistakenly posted H is is for Herring over at BarbAndRoland.com instead of here where it belongs! If you love herring or just want to see Barb eating herring in Holland or a Dutch vendor preparing it, check it out!
After meeting with some of the moms and babies that I met through the Kits Community Centre, I popped into Saffron (2836 West 4th Ave., 604.731.2233) to check out their "on tap" olive oils. Usually shopping for olive oils is a challenge when you can't taste them first. At Saffron, they sell oils in bulk and tasting each of them is part of the buying process.
First, my apologies to the good folks at Infuze for inadvertently calling them Matcha in yesterday's post (I need more sleep!).
The Infuze Tea House (604 688-3170, 870 West Cordova Street) is a stylish, hip place to sip tea, eat some sweet and savoury snacks as accompaniments and buy tea for brewing at home.
Barb and I really miss Koffee Verkeert (about 1.6 Euros or $CAN 2.70) which is the Dutch version of coffee with milk. Unlike the coffee you get here in Canada, it is NOT over roasted ; it is strong with just the right amount of milk. Mmmm. I don't normally like coffee ; I drink it to stay awake after waking up early to take care of our child or I drink it in Italy where inexplicably it tastes good.
This is ridiculous! It's been over a year since I blogged about Infuze and I still haven't tried it. I spend a lot of time in downtown and Gastown so there is no excuse. Soon!
If you like the AnthonyBourdain school of writing as I do (even though I could never eat half the things he does or do the gonzo things he does), the you'll love StainedApron.com.
The Mouse and the Bean Menu del Dia (menu of the day) for about $9 plus tax and tip is always a good deal. You get a drink (usually their delicious watermelon juice), soup or salad and a main. Lots of food and a great lunch. You won't need a big supper.
