From the Apple Festival website:

A family event for all ages, the UBC Apple Festival celebrates one of British Columbia's favourite fruits. All are welcome to attend, from children learning about the diversity of apples to those who remember tasting heritage apples in their youth.

Flexistenialist's amazing HOWTO make Vietnamese iced coffee

[UPDATE: unfortunately as I write this, there are some spam comments at the end of the Flexistentialist piece which contain coarse language and other bad stuff. I believe that these comments are SPAM and will be deleted by the Flexistentialist author and I will alert him to their presence.]

Thanksgiving Turkey Tips

Monday is Canadian Thanksgiving! Happy Thanksgiving everybody.

Most people I know have their Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday rather than Monday but for those who are having it on Monday, here are some tips on baking a turkey:

Pondok Indonesia still rocks in 2004

Mon04Oct2004Food - Another Great Meal at Pondok Indonesia - 3

It's great to see that some things never change. Other than the fact that Pondok Indonesia now has an official website, nothing has changed. The food is still great and still inexpensive.

[ROLAND's NOTE: Thanks Ken.  Would have loved to have been there.  But you don't need me to take pictures, just use your camera and post them here with Flickr.  Flickr is free and allows you to post tons of pictures for free (disclosure: I know and like the Flickr folks but I am not an investor; just a happy paid up user with 4000 photos there). And you can post pictures from Flickr to VanEats very easily.]

The last two weeks of classes only got better and better.

Best Vancouver Downtown Cafes with Free WiFi

The best Vancouver downtown cafes with free WiFi are (in no particular order): Take 5, Trees Coffee and Cafe Artigiano.  Read my story, Best Vancouver Downtown Cafes with Free WiFi, for the full details.

Note that this is just downtown, if you know of other good cafes with free WiFi (I am particularly interested in Kits, East Van, Gastown and Chinatown) let  me know and/or send a report and I'll post it here.

Dunlevy Food Equipment has moved to West 7th at Manitoba [SaabKen]

[ROLAND's NOTE: Thanks Ken!]

Dunlevy Food Equipment has moved to a bigger premise at 60 W. 7th at Manitoba. This is where I go for basic kitchen tools and gadgets. They cater to restaurants and the commercial hospitality/service sector but open to the public too. Selection isn't huge and don't expect to find trendy equipment, just simple, classic tools that get the job done right.

Vij's Rangoli - you can now eat there until 8p.m.

We went to Vij's Rangoli tonight to pick up some takeout and were delighted to find that you can now eat food as well as take out food until 8p.m. On our previous visits, takeout food was available until 8p.m. but could only eat in until 4p.m.

Needless to say, the food whether you eat-in or take out is still excellent. Flavourful, spicy but not too spicy just the right amount of heat and varied!
