At the East Van Farmers Market today, we learned about the 8th Annual GVRD Farm Open House Day on Saturday May 25, 2002, 10a.m. to 4p.m. at farms across the Lower Mainland.
Thirteen farms across the Greater Vancouver Regional Disrict will be open for FREE tours.
And you can park your car at one of four farms, and then be whisked on a free bus tour to several farms.
This sounds like a great event for the entire family. It's always great to find out more about our food comes from and how it comes to our table.
When I lived in Germany, I was lucky enough to have a Turkish restaurant around the corner from me.
I loved that place! Just like a lot of Chinese restaurants here which serve "Candianized" Chinese food, it served "Germanized" Turkish food.
However they also served "real" Turkish food. Wonderful boreks with phyllo pastry and lots of dishes which, alas, don't appear to be available in Vancouver.
My taste for Turkish food has remained but until we visited Cafe Olive I had not been able to satisfy my cravings for Turkish food.
Our DSL access has been down for the last couple of days so updates (if any) to vaneats and to my weblog, http://www.rolandtanglao.com (which is inaccessible since it is served by my server running on my DSL) will be sporadic.
On West 10th close to Safeway and UBC, the Pane e Formaggio bakery/deli has become one our favourite places to buy Italian bread and pannini
Less than a year old, the room is a cozy, comfortable and very attractive place to browse for Italian breads, cheeses, meats, sandwiches and other Italian goods like pasta, canned tomatoes, etc. as well as to linger over a coffee and a pastry or sandwich (if you are lucky enough to get one of the few tables!).
At $2.95, their Tuscan bread is our current favourite Tuscan bread in the city. A perfect platform for Italian cheeses and meats!
