First Visit: Café Bombay

Barb and I finally had the chance to visit Café Bombay last week.

It was a Friday night at about 9p.m. We walked in and were pleasantly surprised by live Indian music.

The room's layout hasn't changed but the decor is now soothing Indian complete with vintage photos of India on the wall.

Since it was so late, we only ordered two starters and one appetizer.

Italian Grape Cake

After buying such flavourful coronation grapes at the East Van Farmers' Market last weekend, I was determined to buy more grapes to use them in a dessert for our Thansksgiving (with an Italian twist) dinner. I ended up making Italian grape cake.

As part of our Thanksgiving feast tonight, I made this butternut squash and hazelnut lasagne to go along with the ususal turkey and all the trimmings. It was a hit! Everyone enjoyed the sweetness of the squash in contrast to the crunchy, aromatic hazelnuts.

Retro Birthday Dinner

Last weekend we threw a retro theme birthday party for our friends Lisa and Rebecca. Since we're swing dancers, it wasn't too out of the ordinary for us to wear vintage attire. However, we haven't had an opportunity to cook a retro inspired meal. Instead of cooking "authentic" dishes from the 50's, I turned to my vintage cookbooks for inspiration.

Jang Mo Jib Express to open up Downtown!

The other day I spotted a new restaurant under construction: Jang Mo Jib Express on Richards just south of Hastings. I can't wait! Jang Mo Jib on Kingsway and Robson are two of our favourite places to eat because they offer spicy, tasty authentic Korean food.

Needless to say, I will be watching the situation closely and I shall be one of the first to check it out when it opens!
