Or anyone who knows local
Or anyone who knows local places offering great fried chicken or chicken fried steak please share. I actually like Uncle Willy's fried chicken and even Church's (but not KFC!). Due to fried chicken's less-than-stellar ratings on the healthy lifestyle scale I can't afford the calories to go around and sample everything out there. Thanks.

I'm also a big fan of "real chicken" chicken fried steak (deboned, skinned breast & thigh, scallopinied and coated in crumbs then fried). Won't find places up here that makes them, except possibly Ouisi's Bistro or that defunct 'Appy Hour in Marpole. If you're in Seattle's Fremont area, do check out the Red Door Alehouse under the old Pacific Hwy #99 bridge to Queen Anne. Great side slaw too. Pair the meal with couple of pints of Red Hook and I'm a real happy camper !

Sooooo was that Popeye's
Sooooo was that Popeye's Chicken right, Jan ? ; ) I think she fell in to the comments box trap where after you hit "submit" the box still stays open. Unless people know they're suppose to close the comments box they (and I a few times) often keep clicking "submit" button over and over. Well now we have no excuse not to try out Popeye's Chicken. Look forward to it.

The american chain Popeye's
The american chain Popeye's Chicken has made it's way here! I ate at one in Coquitlam across from the Coquitlam Centre mall. The chicken isn't really spicy, but it's much better than KFC's. They have really creative sides like shrimp jambalaya. Overall I was impressed, and will return to try their catfish. Menu & locations- http://www.popeyes.com The local version of Lee's on Kingsway sounds great, will check it out.

Hi, I just happened on this
Hi, I just happened on this site by chance, saw the heading about Barberton Birds, and thought I would answer, seeing as how I live in Ohio not far from Barberton. If you go to this person's newsletter and email her, she probably can provide you with authentic recipes. She is the award-winning food editor for the Akron Beacon Journal and she and local readers have provided these recipes several times in her columns over the years. Good luck, Barberton chicken is great stuff! http://www.thebeaconjournal.com/newsletter/snowarchive.html

Although this strays off the southern fried chicken path, I feel obliged to note that the best chicken karaage I've had so far in Vancouver are at The Gyoza King, Guu and Hapa Izakaya. Of these three Gyoza King's seem most moist and juicy without tasting greasy.

the Lee's on kingsway is nuts
the Lee's on kingsway is nuts because it's also a korean restaurant, and it's licensed. So you can have your 15piece box of lee's with a bottle of soju or a kokanee and maybe some kalbi. (this == crazy). and yes, the richmond location is officially called L.A. Chicken, but it was previously a Lee's. I think the franchising license expired or something, but the chicken is just as good (or even better).

thanks everybody! perhaps i shouldn't have blogged this as we have a deep fryer but are too lazy and health conscious :-) to use it but as always, martha's recipe (thanks Ken!) looks good and we probably have tons of recipes in one of our over 100 cookbooks (yes we have too many!) and i like the idea of the hot and spicy chicken available at Lee's on Kingsway in Burnaby (thanks Ernie!): http://www.yummyweb.com/show_store.php?sid=25 couldn't find anything about Lee's in Richmond so i guess it really is now LA chicken which is a chain, right?

The one on main st you
The one on main st you mention could be Juicy Fried Chicken? They have yellow t-shirts for sale in the window. Their chicken is a bit salty, but also very good. Still preferred over KFC (that's easy), and pretty close to church's.

My wife keeps Martha Stewart
My wife keeps Martha Stewart magazine recipes and I happened to catch this fried chicken recipe from a few years ago. Haven't done it yet ... waiting for a summer picnic. Here it is online: http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=recipe1510&search=true&resultNo=2&dp=false

I think there's a Lee's
I think there's a Lee's chicken on Main around 10th but it looks kind of uninviting from the outside. Who knows ? I work at Metrotower so I'll go find the one on Kingsway .... maybe even today. Thanks Ernie !

i'm a huge fan of Lee's Fried
i'm a huge fan of Lee's Fried Chicken in Richmond. Though it's now called L.A. Chicken, it's the same incredible chicken I've been having for 10 years. It's on thorpe road I think, just 1 block south of cambie on 5rd in richmond. Their fries and salads aren't all that exciting, but the spicy/cripsy style chicken is incredibly good. Crunchy, non-greasy, juicy fried chicken. This place drives me absolutely nuts, but I try not to eat it more than once a month. But the first weekend of every month, you'll find me there. There's also a Lee's chicken on kingsway in burnaby, just east of metrotown that's also very good. Their chicken turned out greasier than the one in richmond though. Still very tasty stuff.
