Chutneys Queen Anne (in the Queen Anne neighbourhood of Seattle) is a nice restaurant. Nice decor, cloth napkins. Not the kind of place you'd expect to have delicious Indian food!
The food is great! In particular the spinach mushroom chicken and the murgh chicken are outstanding. And if you go there, you must order the curried mussels appetizer! The sauce is heavenly.
This weekend we went to Seattle to dance at the Century Ballroom (where The Swing Session played) and at the Mountaineers' Club (where Lily Wilde played) both of which were organized as part of the dance events for this year's Seattle Lindy Exchange.
If you're around this weekend, check out A Taste of B.C. at Minter Gardens on August 5 and 6. The weekend will showcase B.C. food and beverage products including fresh fruit, cheeses, organic meat, poultry, honey, baked goods, flowers, and of course B.C. wine and beer.
Unfortunately we're out of town this weekend, otherwise we'd check it out. If anyone has a chance to attend this event, let us know what you thought!
In Vancouver we're blessed with an abundance of locally based farms and food producers. There's no better time than summer to check out some of the great farms that are literally in our back yards!
DineBC.com is another commercial restaurant directory website similar to Flavourfinder.com that we featured in May. Patti Lennox of DineBC emailed us that an "exciting new feature will be launched on Aug 1, 2001". So please check out their site and let us know what this is!
This is the recipe from Gourmet (April 2001) that I used for the banana cream pie I made for Roland's birthday. The pie filling is delicious--really rich, custardlike and a nice complement to the bananas.
The crust was a bit fiddly to make and next time I might just substitute the chocolate chip cookie crust with a chocolate cookie crumb crust or just a plain old graham cracker crust.
