Last Friday, Barb and I tried out Maria's Taverna on 4th (2324 West 4th Avenue, 604 731-4722). It was packed and now we know why: the food is delicious and affordable.
We especially enjoyed the cold starter platter ($12.95) which consisted of tzatziki (chunky cucumber, garlic and yogurt), babaganoush (eggplant, definitely the best of the bunch), taramasalata (beautiful flavour that doesn't taste fishy), hummus and feta cheese! Enough for 4-6 people as a shared starter; almost a complete meal for two.
And the kleftiko (roast lamb, about $17; more than enough for two) is wonderful winter food. Delicious meat falling off the bone perfectly cooked nicely seasoned with lemon and herbs served with potatoes and a greek salad. Mmm! We'll be back for a mini-review
