Me-n-Ed's Pizza Parlors.

Derek Miller raves about Me-n-Ed's Pizza in  Perfect Pepperoni.   Saab Ken says they are an American based chain.  I don't care whether they are a chain or not, American or not, as long as the pizza is good.  For my money, the best pizza in the city is at Marcello's and Lombardo's (I prefer Lombardo's ambiance).

What do you think? And can anybody out there resolve the question of whether Me-n-Ed's is an American chain or not?

Leave a comment if you know the answer or have tried their pizza.  We don't get out to Burnaby or North Van or the 'burbs where Me-n-Ed's are located  that much so we won't make the pilgrimage to one of Me-n-Ed's locations unless we hear more good reports.

Oh yes, the pizza is very, VERY good. Crispy cracker crust and lots of variety in toppings, crust, and sauce. Choose from their menu of pre-defined pizzas or design your own from scratch (though I'd suggest keeping yourself to just a couple of toppings, perhaps three at most, if you design your own), either way the pizza is consistently great. I've been eating there semi-regularly for years, after having been introduced to the the restaurant by someone who's family had eaten there for ages. My understanding has been that they are a local company, but I have no firm evidence to back that up.

I will have to piggy back on scriv38's comment. I also grew up in Fresno, Ca., where Me n Ed's is from. I believe it was launched by former local kiddy show talent, Al Radka.... Used to watch him in the early 70's. You can't go far in Fresno without running in to one. The best pizza bar none. Better than any thick, New York or Chicago style deep dish. The thin, crispy crust just wins out. The red sauce is spice and the cheese mix is unparalleled in my opinion. I have eaten there for almost 30 years, but now live in a city without one. I have traveled over an hour out of my way for one and am thinking about doing that now. Damn, it is good! Hope you try one. Brentster

thanks again brentster, scriv38 was the one who confirmed that they are an American chain i don't usually eat at chains, but for a spicy, thin crust pizza I'll make an exception!

Me-N-Ed's is an American chain. They originated out of Fresno, CA. in 1958. They mostly have Franchise and Corporate owned locations in the Central Valley in California (about 50+). I grew up in Fresno and now reside in Southern California, where there are still 4 original franchise locations. I've been all over the U.S., and it is still the best pizza I've ever had.

hi airdrie: it's on our list see: http://www.vaneats.com/2003/09/10#a2099 Thanks for checking out VanEats! ...Roland

Roland, You must venture-out to the "burbs" as you call them and try Me'n'Eds soon. Try the Burnaby location! Driving or taking a Kingsway bus, you will find it is not really that far to go. They also deliver. My favourite: the Chicken Curry Pizza.

ok, so maybe they *were* American originally but aren't now thanks ken for the links we'll give their pizza try someday soon and ask them what the real story is!

Aha, my memory serves me right after all (am I really that old ??). And I even found proof on the Web: http://www.burnabynow.com/092102/business/092102bu3.html But I'm willing to bet the current lower mainland chain is wholly-owned by locals and no longer affiliated with the US chain. I always liked Me'n'Eds, even when the seemingly more popular thick-crust pizzarias started taking over. Now, amazingly enough, everyone is selling their "new" thin crust pizza. I guess what goes around comes around. I still go to the one in Coquitlam on Austin once in a while, or the one on Kingsway at Middlegate Mall (although I go there partly because I want to check on the McDonalds next door where I worked while in high school... Yes, I am a child of the 80's... 8-).

When discussing the best pizza in the city, you have to consider RoundTable Pizza! They aren't as well known, but try their meat lovers or their feta, and you'll see what I mean!

By the way, when I say they have lots of variety in toppings, crust, and sauce, I should have said "dough" instead of "crust", as their pizzas are all of the cracker crust style, but there are options for whole wheat, etc.
