Roti bistro is a small comfortable oasis of Caribbean calm in Kits on 4th Avenue just a couple of blocks west of Burrard. Everything is good and cheap here! I've tried the stuffed rotis filled with chick peas and curried chicken and the jerk chicken and samosas, Jamaican patties and the drinks. All are very tasty and inexpensive and can be ordered with the spice level you desire. I especially love the peanut drink!
Last Friday I had the ultra cheap and ultra filling $5.99 special.
If Barb and I weren't saving up for our wedding, we would be going to tomorrow's Festival of Fields at UBC's South Campus Farm from 1p.m. to 5p.m. because top local restaurants + local produce from local fields + charity = fun for a good cause! Fresh local produce prepared by chefs from top restaurants for $60! Definitely a good deal!
I am totally addicted to Uprising Breads' (604 254 5635, 1697 Venables, near Ace of Suedes (warning AoS's website has annoying e-commerce popups which fortunately are easily removed!) Whole Wheat Raisin Bread. It's sweet, wonderful and because it's whole wheat almost good for you. Toasted and slathered with peanut butter and washed down with milk or orange juice it's a true power breakfast!
