Recently I've been trying to increase my calcium intake by eating yogurt and using yogurt in breakfast shakes. I've been trying different brands and styles but I've found that I like Olympic yogurt--it's balkan style (a looser texture) and has natural bacterial culture.
After our second visit to Cafe Olive on Saturday, which was an excellent dining experience just like our first visit, we decided to write a Mini-Review.
Just east of Commercial on Charles Street, Cafe Olive is an oasis of Turkish vegetarian food on Vancouver's East Side. It is calm and serene and very much a Commercial Drive type of place with that wonderful kind of laid back Commercial Drive ambiance. There's lots of art on the walls, some vaguely trendy but catchy music is always playing and the kitchen is in plain sight to add to the show.
Although they are open for breakfast and dinner (complete with Belly Dancing on Friday nights), we have only been there for lunch twice
According to this article from the Observer, Britain (of all places! Not really surprisihg considering their huge Asian population!) is re-inventing and morphing Indian food into something unique and wonderful. And one of the areas of innovation is the adoption of street food recipes such as Sweet Potato Cake (a recipe for this dish is at the end of the article).
This old adage applies equally to what we eat. It looks like the immoderate consumption of Chilean Sea Bass due to it being a "trendy" food is causing its numbers to greatly decrease.
We were delighted to find out this Saturday that our current favourite bread, Tuscan Bread from Casa Breads that we buy from Pane e Formaggio on West 10th is also available at Bosa in East Van.
So if you are on the East side, buy it at Bosa, if you are on the West Side buy it at Pane e Formaggio. Both places are great and well worth checking out!
