First Visit: Vera's Burger Shack

I enjoyed the delicious burgers ($4.50) and fries ($3.50 for a large) that I tried last week at Vera's Burger Shack (1935 Cornwall Avenue, 604 228-8732). As befits its Kits Beach location, Vera's is open, loud and boisterous in a good way. A far cry from the cool vintage vibe of our favourite, Moderne Burger (because the food is great, the owners are cool people and it's close enough to walk to with the baby).

Here are some pictures of Vera's burger and fries:

I'll be back for a mini-review)

A note to add to this. Vera's has a new location at Davie, just West of Burrard on the South side. I just saw it today while passing by, and couldn't tell if they were yet open, but will be soon if they aren't.

There is a funny story to this visit. I was there with Roland and our friend Boris Mann. We ordered three different burgers. When the three burgers came up and were put on the shelf for us to retrieve, we inquired, "Which burger is which?" obviously so that we could get the correct burger to the correct individual. The woman looked at us like we completely stupid and said as she pointed to one after another, "This is the first burger, this is the second burger, and this is the third burger." We burst out laughing but she didn't seem to understand why WE were so stupid that we couldn't understand. Maybe you had to be there but it was a very funny moment. I related it to a Microsoft tech-support call. Technically speaking her answer was correct, but it was also completely useless. That aside, the burgers were sloppy and good, and the fries were okay. The energy of the place is quite high, because of the beach-folk who support it.

troy, thanks for sharing the story! i totally forgot about it her response was very much like a smart aleck response from a computer support person! in other words, no real harm intended but not very enlightening

i think they are open, want to go there for lunch next week?
