Actually this is not really a first visit report. I have been to the Salty Tongue (213 Carrall Street, 604 815-7258) many times since I first found out about it, but for some reason never filed a first report. Perhaps, I am trying to keep this place for myself :-) !
The room is cozy and tranquil filled with bread, cheese and other deli essentials. I have only bought lunch and never bought any stuff to take home because I've never had the time. But they have Terra breads, pasta and lots of other New York Style deli stuff. I would love to have a deli like this close to where we live in Kits!
The lunches are great. I usually get a soup, salad and sandwich combo but there's lots of stuff on the menu as well as coffee, Italian sodas and tea. At $7.99, it's a very filling lunch. No need to have a big dinner afterwards.
Last time I had wild rice with mushroom soup, couscous salad and a sandwich with prosciutto. Very nice. Prosciutto is always excellent, the Terra bread is delicious and everything is freshly prepared on the premises. Check out the picture below.
I really enjoy hanging out at the Salty Tongue because it's a great old buliding with two levels If you want peace and quiet, you can go upstairs or settle in with the rest of the diners downstairs. See you there!
