Eat Vancouver 2003 Report

Instead of watching the first three periods of the Canucks game on Friday night, Barb and I went to Eat Vancouver 2003. We were twice lucky! Not only did we have some great food moments at Eat Vancouver, we also managed to make it home in time to watch Canucks win in overtime live!

If you like food (which luckily most people do), the show is definitely worth visiting. Admission is $9 but you can find coupons everywhere to reduce it to $7 per person as we did.

Here are some of my highlights of Friday evening:

  • Don Genova's quick and easy Duqqa cooking demo - I loved his easy recipes for meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans.
  • Battle of the chefs - Terminal City Club versus Centro Mediterranean Grill. Centro seemed better to me but Terminal City had great presentation and simplicity; (check a photo of Centro's plate versus a photo of Terminal City Club's plate). I am curious to see what the judges thought; we didn't stick around to see who won!
  • Pea Butter - a nice, tasty alternative to peanut butter for those who are allergic to peanuts or for those who want a change.
  • Year old Juraflore mountain cheese made from unpasteurized milk and sold at the Urban Fare Booth at $3 for 100g. Delicious so we bought some.
  • Over at The Bite of Vancouver ( n inexpensive way to to get a sense of the food at a restaurant you haven't tried and also a way to inexpensively sample wines and beers since most thing are $3 or less), we loved:
    • The mango scallops from Rubina Tandoori; from each bite, you got a hit of scallop as well as mango. Excellent.
    • The butter chicken from Maurya. Classic multi-dimensional flavour! A timeless dish done well! We need to try out this restaurant!
