Goldilocks Bake Shop

Barb had a craving for Filipino food today, so we went to Goldilocks Bake Shop today on Broadway (1606 West Broadway 604 736 7744). In addition to their famous baked goods and desserts popularized by the original Goldilocks chain in the Philippines, they also have a restaurant area that serves faithful renditions of all the Filipino classics. They have takeout as well.

I've been reluctant to try their non dessert food in the past because nobody's Filipino food can match my Mama's but Barb is Chinese Canadian so she had no qualms and kept urging us to go. Well I was wrong; I'm glad we went!

Barb and I had kare kare (oxtail stew with peanut sauce), pancit palabok (noodles with shrimp gravy garnished with egg, onions and pork crackling), lumpia (Filipino spring rolls) and a calamansi slush (calamansi is a citrus fruit like lime) with rice. This came to $13. All in all a very enjoyable meal in a non pretentious, clean and friendly atmosphere. It's a great place to get introduced to Filipino cuisine.
