If you love French food and want to taste some of what Vancouver's best French chefs have to offer, you might want to drop by St. Catherine's Anglican Church in Edgemont Village (North Van) this coming Saturday morning. They are holding a fundraising benefit to build a playground for the local French public school and will have some great French chefs making and selling for the cause. The details are:
WHEN: Saturday, March 29 From 9:30 am to 4:00 pm
WHERE: St Catherine's Anglican Church 1058 Ridgewood, Edgemont Village, North Vancouver
CONTACT: 604-985-0666 (number for the church)
MENU:
9:30 am to 11:00 am Chef Philippe from the Eiffel Café in Deep Cove will be making breakfast crepes
10:45 am to 11:30 am Chef Alain from La Regalade in West Van will treat you to his signature appy "tarte aux poires et bleu d'auvergne" (pear and blue cheese tart)
11:30 am to 12:15 pm Chef Michel from Chez Michel will do "prawns a la provencale" (I think that's prawns with cream and mushroom)
12:15 pm to 13:00 pm Chef Sylvain from the Observatory at Grouse Mountain will whip up "cote de veau puree au refort" (I think it's veal rib with a roquefort cream sauce reduction)
13:00 pm to 13:45 pm Chef Frederic from The Cannery Restaurant in Vancouver will re-create his "Civet de thon et risotto" (No one I know seems to know what a civet is... but the rest is tuna and risotto) [Editor's note: according to my French dictionary, "civet" means stew.]
13:45 pm to 14:30 pm Roving French Chef Dominique finishes with desert and his "Profiterole et glace a la vanille sauce chocolat" (profiteroles with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce)
All this weight gain for a good cause!
