CityCooks 500th Show Media Appreciation Cocktail - Monday 7th February 2005

CityCooks 500th Show Media Appreciation Cocktail - 18

I was invited and attended the CityCooks 500th Show Media Appreciation Cocktail last Monday February 7, 2005. Check out my CityCooks 500th Show Media Appreciation Cocktail album on Flickr for the photos.

Here are some observations:

  • The food from C was great. Robert Clark and Rob Belcham, in addition to cooking delicious food, are warm and friendly in person. My favourite was the lobster with a lime vinaigrette in a pipette pictured above that you had to squeeze to get a burst of lime flavour. Sublime! I could eat a dozen of these but I restrained myself to only one! Must find the money and check out C soon. Last time I was there was 99 or 2000!
  • According to the press release we were given, they tape five shows a week and have been doing so for since 2002. Wow, it's like a blog. On VanEats, we have been blogging at least 5 days a week (until our baby was born it was usually 7 days a week!) since June 2000 and in the course of 4.5 years have written over 1200 blog posts
  • Wait a minute, it's even more like a blog because Simi Sara, improvises and never follows the plan that she and her staff draw up.
  • Simi Sara is down to earth and personable. Had a brief chat to her (and of course asked them to set up a blog) and she seemed amenable to the idea.
  • CityCooks needs a blog (not necessarily from Simi but from the staff) to give us additional details about each of the shows, insider stuff and timely stuff that can't be fit into a show. The current site has recipes but it's so easy to set up a blog and publish to it. This would draw Internet surfers into the show and create a larger community around it.
  • And wouldn't it be great if the show itself was available as a video podcast? I've talked to various people about this and they have all dismissed the idea but I bet it happens sooner rather than later.
