First Visit: Feenie's

Barb and I had an excellent meal at Feenie's (2563 West Broadway 604 739-7115) tonight.

The room is quieter and cozier than that of Lumiere. Lots of nooks and crannies for sound to be absorbed in.

And the food is cheaper but still high quality.  We had two starters, a duck confit salad ($12) and a fig salad with arugula and prosciutto for $9.  We loved the duck confit salad - crunchy duck with delicious and not greasy duck meat and some greens.  Mmmm.

A word to the wise. The starters are large and if you are not overly hungry you could easily eat one as a meal or split it between two people.

For mains, Barb had the calamari sandwich ($12) which was full of surprisingly tasty tomato (perhaps it was roasted a bit to concentrate the flavour) and crunchy calamari. I had the shephard's pie again with duck and also with mushrooms and truffled mash potatoes (mmm!) for $14.

Finally, we split the chocolate fondant ($6) for dessert.  Being a chocoholic, this was the hightlight of the meal for me.  If you like melted chocolate, you'll love this. Melted milk chocolate plus honey ice cream plus Grand Marnier ice cream equals happiness.

The total came to $68.98 including a Nelson Paddywhack IPA, a bottle of sparkling mineral water, and taxes but not a tip.  A good deal considering the quality of the food.
