Barb and I went to the Russsian Christmas bazaar at the Russian Centre on 4th Avenue today. Wonderful children's dancing, singing and performing as well as crafts and other stuff for sale.
But of course, we went for the food. The Borscht is a steal at $3 a bowl including great broth, cabbage, beets, sour cream and a slice of bread; an excellent lunch for one.
Needless to say we ate more: cabbage rolls with vegetables and buckwheat for $5 as well as some excellent Pelmeny (kind of like Russian tortellini, noodles stuffed with beef) in a clear broth also $5. Delicious.
If you see this before 5.p.m., they are open today until 5p.m. at the Russian Centre and tomorrow November 16th from 12-5p.m. at the Holy Trinity Church (not quite sure where that is, perhaps it's here at 409 East Broadway ?!?). Admission is $1.
