Andechs - A German mecca for beer lovers

If you love beer, you must make the pilgrimage once in your lifetime to the Andechs brewery on the outskirts of Munich.

When I lived in Germany, I had the pleasure of visiting Andechs multiple times. You must go! Wonderful beer (brewed onsite by monks since the 15th century), huge, tasty pieces of pork (Gegrillte Haxe) and incredibly large and wonderfully chewy pretzels. Nirvana on the cheap and very accessible (a short train (S-Bahn) ride from Munich and then a short stroll to the brewery)!

Great memories of this and other memorable experiences in Germany ( oh the wheat beer!) came flooding back after reading today's Globe and Mail article about Andechs and other great Bavarian beer spots!
